Film: Voice’s of the struggle.

palestinefilmfestivalpost

The art of film, broadcast, documentaries have always been a large interest of mine. Bringing your imagination to life, telling the many stories of the world, and the world’s people is in my opinion; the greatest way to inform the world.
With creativity, that sparks interest with viewers, brings out the imagined, and the imaginable.
Film has been a voice of the Palestinian struggle for some time now. It’s something I believe that should be fully supported by the community, because it’s a powerful voice of now, and WILL be a powerful voice of tomorrow.

Here are some film festivals worth checking out, that are dedicated to the voice of Palestine specifically. And if you’re a film maker why not give it a shot?! Tell your story, or a story of someone else. It’s amazing how powerful it could be if it wins an award or not…BE HEARD!

PALESTINE FILM FOUNDATION
Boston Palestine Film Festival
Toronto Palestine Film Festival
Chicago Palestine Film Festival ***NOTE THIS SITE IS NOT WORKING AT THIS TIME***
London Palestine Film Festival- I couldnt find an offical site for this festival, but they have information on the Palestine Film Foundation site.
Sidney Palestine Film Festival

I am surprised that there are no official festivals dedicated to the stories of Palestine in both New York, and California. Both NY and CA have large populations of Palestinians, and both states are very active when it comes to fighting for the Palestinian struggle, but also when you think of film, well…that is the two places you think of! Who knows, maybe someone might come across this and will start something up!

THE PALESTINIAN AMERICAN NATIONAL CONFERENCE

Palestinian American National Conference

The convening of a Palestinian American National conference that is inclusive of every Palestinian living in America is long overdue.
We are coming together as American Palestinians
to commemorate the 60th anniversary of
Al-Nakba (forced eviction of our people from
our ancient homeland).

The American Palestinian people are an important
and integral part of American Society and
as such should be empowered to become an
effective force in US policy towards a free
Palestine. Therefore, as responsible American
citizens we have a duty and a right to convince
our government that “there will be no peace in
the Middle East without the Palestinian Right
of return”.

On May 23rd, 24th, and 25th of 2008, we are
planning this conference to be held in Chicago
at the Crowne Plaza Hotel with recognized
International and American speakers, panel
discussions and a full range of activities.
This conference will be held to appeal to a wide
audience to help rescue our people from the
slums of the refugee camps and the brutality ofthe Israeli Military Occupation.

Toronto Palestinian Film Festival- LET YOUR VOICES BE HEARD!

So I was searching around the Internet, and I came across this Toronto Palestinian Film Festival.  The festival will be held in October, in where else, Toronto.  When I saw this I thought it was be a good idea to post it on here, to let you all know about it.  We always encourage everyone, Palestinian or Non-Palestinians to find creative ways to let their voices be heard.  That way its not only words coming out of your mouth, but its something that people would remember.  So I thought that this would be a good idea for many of you, I don’t know how much talent you must have to submit a film, but it doesn’t hurt to try.  Plus they have a youth category, for those of you who are under the age of 18. Which I think is great, because there aren’t a lot of opportunities like that for the youth. Anyways, for those of you who do plan on entering, the information is below, and good luck!

                                                                                                  toronto palesitnian film festival

The Toronto Palestine Film Festival (TPFF) is now accepting entries for the first annual festival to be held in October 2008.Conceived by Palestine House, the festival is an important component of the year-long activities commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Nakba. Cinema represents a powerful means for visually interpreting the collective identity and historic struggle of the Palestinian people. The festival will present in film the extraordinary narrative of a dispossessed people living in exile or under Israeli occupation and will introduce Canadian audiences to the rich variety of Palestinian cinema. While highlighting the work of Palestinian filmmakers the festival will showcase the diverse and creative work of all filmmakers (any nationality) exploring both historic and contemporary themes related to Palestinian culture, experience, and narrative.Eligibility

The Non Violent Movement for Palestine-Occupation 101

The Non Violent Movement for Palestine at SUNY New Paltz

President (speaker in this film)- Ahmed S.

Vice President (My cousin, Yasmin J.)

and… I created this video…

Thank you everyone who attended…

After watching this film myself, it really hit me. Again…every-time I see something like this film it hits me like I knew nothing before.  Like this whole occupation is something knew, because the more facts that process in my mind, the more images of children crying that I see, the more words of mothers yelling “My son was killed by an Israeli gun,” I hear, I dont understand how any human can accept the acts of Israel.  The film “Occupation 101,” was a great film.  It brought images, the words of the Palestinian people, facts, and also what I believe helped bring the word out even more, was the words by the Jews, who do not support the occupation.

If you have not seen “Occupation 101,” I recommend you do.  And when you see it, I hope you not only take in what you learn, but let it out too.

Oh and sorry for the shaky camera. Haha, I was trying to do like 3 things at once. =/
