On Monday January 19th, 2009, people all across the United States will celebrate the life, legacy, and birthday of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who was assssinated by a racist’s bullet on April 4th, 1968. Dr. King was one of the foremost leaders of the Black civil rights movement in this country, an organizer extraordinaire for peace and justice, and an eloquent orator who challenged racism, injustice, and oppression everywhere.

Approximately 1,100 Palestinians have been slaughtered since the Israeli Massacres of Gaza began 19 days ago, with over 4,600 injured and the Massacres by the Zionist Israeli State Continue Unabated as the world watches in silence & complicity.

The thousands and thousands of Black civil rights organizers and activists, with Dr. King as one of their representatives, were people of courageous action, many of whom gave their lives to the struggle for Black liberation, and they would not have stood idly by while this new war on the Palestinians is being waged.

Join the Break the Siege on Gaza Coalition, and our friends from all different communities in the peace and justice movement of greater New York & New Jersey and across the U.S. (confirmed cities for these nationally coordinated days of action already include Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Youngstown, OH–and others will be confirming soon), as we do justice to Dr. King’s memory, and the memories of others like him, by demanding an end to “Israel’s” massacre of the Palestinian people.

Sick of the Media Lies About the Gaza Massacre? PROTEST!

Sick of the media lies about the Gaza Massacre?
Protest today and tomorrow in D.C., Chicago and San Francisco

As of this writing nearly 1,000 Palestinians have been needlessly killed and another 4,000 injured–all in less than 20 days. The war crimes committed by the Israeli occupation forces include the targeting of civilians, women and children, entire families, schools, mosques, medical aid workers, journalists and the entire infrastructure of Gaza. The IOF has also used outlawed chemical weapons against the population. Despite unanimous world-wide condemnation of the murderous and illegal invasion and siege of an already occupied people, every major news outlet in the U.S. is acting as apologists for the U.S.-supported Israeli massacre. As just one example of their biased reporting, the U.S. corporate media bias has not mentioned at all that this week the Israeli state banned two Arab parties from running in the upcoming elections.

A heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated in the last week to help pay for the expenses for the many mass demonstrations that took place on Jan. 10. None of this would have been possible without the generosity of individuals who came forward to donate. We must go forward. The war is deepening. The death toll is climbing. We will be in the streets again in the next few days. Please continue to show your generosity and commitment and make a donation today by clicking this link.

Washington, D.C.

The Washington Post refuses to cover the demonstrations of thousands of people protesting the massacre in Gaza. Many thousands of local residents, especially from the Arab-American and Muslim community, have demonstrated on Dec. 30, Jan. 2 and last weekend on Jan. 10 in a mass march in Washington, D.C. Not one article in the Washington Post about these demonstrations!

Everyone should bring at least one issue of the Washington Post—multiple copies if you can—to literally dump them on the Post’s doorstep as we denounce their biased pro-Israeli coverage of the massacre in Gaza and their complete whiteout of protest activities in the United States, including last Saturday’s march of tens of thousands of people.

Chicago

Join us on the street in front of the ABC studio during their newscast on Friday, Jan. 16 at 5 pm. We will assemble in front of ABC news to demand an immediate end to the massacre in Gaza. We will also demand that the media report on the thousands of U.S.-supported Israeli war crimes that continue to be carried out against the people of Palestine.

San Francisco

On the day after 10,000 people marched and rallied in San Francisco on January 10 to demand “Let Gaza Live,” the San Francisco Chronicle reported the demonstration had been just “more than 1,000 people.” In their January 10 edition, on the morning of the protest, the Chronicle publicized the pro-Israeli war counter-protest on the steps of City Hall, but failed to mention the “Let Gaza Live” anti-war demonstration.

Immediately after the march, at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, the Chronicle’s website featured the march as its top story under the headline, “Thousands Protest in San Francisco.” By the time the Sunday paper was printed, however, the number of participants had been reduced to “more than 1,000.”

Despite being presented with irrefutable video and photo evidence (linked below) that they had massively undercounted the number of people participating in the march and rally, the Chronicle editors have declined to print a correction.

Protest Thursday, January 15, 5pm
S.F. Chronicle building
Corner of 5th and Mission Sts. in San Francisco. (One block from Powell St. BART).

THE PALESTINIAN AMERICAN NATIONAL CONFERENCE

Palestinian American National Conference

The convening of a Palestinian American National conference that is inclusive of every Palestinian living in America is long overdue.
We are coming together as American Palestinians
to commemorate the 60th anniversary of
Al-Nakba (forced eviction of our people from
our ancient homeland).

The American Palestinian people are an important
and integral part of American Society and
as such should be empowered to become an
effective force in US policy towards a free
Palestine. Therefore, as responsible American
citizens we have a duty and a right to convince
our government that “there will be no peace in
the Middle East without the Palestinian Right
of return”.

On May 23rd, 24th, and 25th of 2008, we are
planning this conference to be held in Chicago
at the Crowne Plaza Hotel with recognized
International and American speakers, panel
discussions and a full range of activities.
This conference will be held to appeal to a wide
audience to help rescue our people from the
slums of the refugee camps and the brutality ofthe Israeli Military Occupation.
